Combination - mix of AC and DC

For vessels that combine AC and DC power architectures, you can combine DEIF controllers in an integrated power and energy management system that handles everything. Given the bidirectional power flow between the AC and DC sides of the system, control applications are usually more complex than with a pure AC or DC bus architecture.

You can use the PPM/PPU 300 Hybrid controller to control the power in the transformer lines between the AC and DC buses. Both AC and DC busbars can be divided using tie breakers to set up redundant power supply systems for additional safety; the tie breakers can also be controlled using PPM/PPU 300s.

A combination architecture can easily be expanded to a low-emission, fuel-efficient hybrid solution by integrating batteries, fuel cells, or shore power. Batteries and fuel cells will usually be connected on the DC side while shore power can be connected to the AC or DC bus as required.
